DAY 24: SSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHH!!!!

All these experiences were starting to get a bit loud, and with a massive hang over & banging headache courtesy of the MFA's, what better way to spend a Friday night than in SILENCE?

We found the perfect opportunity, at this year's Sydney Fringe Festival...

...and we decided to book our places at a SILENT DINNER PARTY.

All we knew about the event before we got there was what we had seen on the site: http://thesydneyfringe.com.au/shows/silent-dinner-parties

We were a bit nervous that it might actually be a cover for some sort of serial killer/terrorist group/cult, needing an excuse to lure defenseless victims into their trap, so devised a cunning sign between the four of us which would be signal to leave should it all get a bit weird (e.g we turn up and the hosts are dressed in head to toe leather with whips and four gimp outfits laid out...)

As it turned out, we didn't need the signal- who knew dinner parties in silence could be eye opening fun!

Speachless Supper

We arrived and were welcomed (in gestures!) by our gracious hostesses, including Honi, the organiser and inspiration behind the silent dinners.  It felt very weird to be waltzing into a strangers house, and not being able to introduce ourselves to those present as they busily finished preparing the dinner.

There was a fair bit of giggling as we got to grips with our hastily invented sign language, as the remaining guests arrived, with waves and nods.

The Quiet Crew

We tucked into a delicious three course vegetarian meal, and I was surprised at how quickly I got used to the silence and signing being the only means of communciation!  We figured out who was with who on the table, and I managed to share a joke with another guest as we waited for the toilet to become vacant using the universal power of sign and toilet humour.

There was something quite refreshing in having dinner with people without knowing their names, what they do for a living, how they 'sound' and the associated stereotypes that go with accents and information.  A certain level of stereotyping was unavoidable though, with the girls sat next to us guessing we were English (could have been to do with the fact that we were knocking back the wine the fastest).

Funniest moments were definitely Maxwell & Nettbags demonstrating the new moves they had learnt the night before in Day 23's strip club experience for the group, Bru making a new friend in the garden who tried to guess where he was from through a series of improvisations like bull fighting for Spanish etc.. (Bru attempted to demonstrate 'French' using a mop as a baguette).

After about 2 hours, one of the group broke, and a deluge of conversation ensued... fascinating to speak to everyone afterwards and see if those preconceptions were wrong!  Most people had come along as a personal challenge or just to experience something different, and it was interesting to learn from Honi that some groups actually leave in silence and don't even speak at the end which would have been even weirder!

DAY 23: MEDIA FEDERATION AWARDS 2010

After the rally driving and the fishing it was time to glam it up a bit with a posh media awards do for Day 23's new experience.  A top night... made up of a showcase of Cue's finest cocktail dresses, flowing wine (and mine sweeping wine when the flowing stopped), plenty of chat, a flying fiddler and a slap-up steak dinner.

Oh and a few awards.

Got some good tips for DAY 30 - TRAPEZE LESSON

Fishy's best Blue Steel

the Paps just wont leave Dean alone

The after-party @ Kinsela's (the photos start getting a bit blurry here....)

Well done to all the agency winners, particularly OMD for the J&J win (go Tone & Ingrid!), Ikon for Combank (go Rogers - and extra props for being the last woman standing at the after party despite just getting off a plane from the UK!) and to Fred @ Starcom for his commendation (work that stage!)...

Now where's that Berocca?

DAY 22: NAIL ART

Only joking those are not mine.
These are mine....

Pink with a zebra & diamonte tip - ahhhhh yeahhh
Nuff said.

I'm now off to the MFA's (Media Federation Awards) as DAY 23's experience... whats the general concensus... KEEP EM OR DITCH EM????

DAY 21: AUSTRALIA'S FIRST MOBILE FILM FESTIVAL (& ROADTRIP TO TUGGERAH)

The Mobile Screenfest is a film festival where all of the entries have been filmed on mobile phones... hence the name.  There have been a few of these around the world but Tuesday saw the first ever Mobile Film Festival in Australia, and we were there, having a new cinematic and new media experience for 30 Days.

I wasn't expecting the quality to be great to be honest, but surprisingly there was some great stuff in there!  There were categories for best drama, comedy, horror etc.. my favourites were '15 Gay Terms' http://vzaar.com/videos/403756 and 'The Blair Spider Project'
(Can't find the video but it was pretty funny).

For the UK crew... one of the prizes was also presented by the bloke who was in Home & Away... remember him=>

Here he is presenting one of the awards (you can just make him out if you squint a bit) he's the one on the right...

And that was the Mobile Screenfest 2010.

ON A SIDE NOTE...There was another first achieved today in the 'travel- new places never visited' category... my first ever trip to TUGGERAH, about an hour and a half drive north of Sydney for a meeting.

My Austereo roadtrip pals, Katie & Luke

Some good views driving up the Central Coast...

Shame we didn't have time for a swim before we had to get back to the office!

DAY 20: ACTING CLASS

Viv and I came over all theatrical and went along for a taste of improv at the Darlinghurst Theatre Company

http://www.darlinghursttheatre.com/page/about_darlo_drama.html

My first ever adult acting class reminded me how much fun drama was at school!  The intro session we went to aims to help students develop skills through improvisation and practical application of acting exercises and games - we played a series of games aimed at encouraging team work, trust (as you would need to work with and trust other actors on stage) and loosening everyone up for the improv.

The improv exercise placed us all with partners, one who would act as the higher status 'master' and the other as the inferior 'slave'.

Really enjoyed the session and would be keen to go back...any companies out there looking for a full time experience tester as I'm not sure how I'm going to fund/make time for all these new hobbies???

DAY 19: SYDNEY HARBOUR BRIDGE RUN DRESSED AS A PIRATE

Day 19 was both the Sydney Harbour Bridge 9k and 'National Talk Like a Pirate Day'

http://www.talklikeapirate.com/
http://www.sydneyrunningfestival.com.au/default.asp?PageID=3230

We decided to combine the two, and shiver me timbers, I managed to scrape in at 57 minutes.

Arrrr, I'm a pirate that I be, I sail me ship upon the sea..
Run Forrest!!!
Not a bad view for a Sunday morning jog!

We are pirates us three, and that's a peg below me knee
Respect to my fellow pirates, and to anyone who did the half or full marathon, that is hardcore!!!

Not my most attractive pirate face

DAY 18: I'M GONNA EAT YOU LITTLE FISHY

DEEP-SEA FISHING... BIG TICK
Saturday's adventure was a half day fishing experience with 'All @ Sea Charters'http://www.allatsea.biz/

We made the epic journey to Cronulla (involving getting up at 4.45am, getting the train with loads of wrong un's still out from Friday night, and then having to sit on a broken down train for half an hour...) but the journey was well worth it when we got out on the open waves, on the search for FISH!

Our crew consisted of our lovely Skipper, Roland, our friendly expert fisherman, Craig and the other five fish hunters on our trip eager to be eating fish fingers for tea.

Blessed with a beautiful day, and plenty of fish to catch, we had a fantastic five hours of fishing after getting to grips with baiting and how to watch out for a bite (top tip from Craig - a little squid head and tentacles as bait... that's what snared me the beauty in the photo!).  We even had a bit of free dolphin watching thrown in!

Between the group we managed a leatherjacket, a few pikes, and loads of ginger ones... 'nannygai'.  In a Jaws like moment, we very nearly caught a shark, but he managed to escape near the surface luckily-I don't fancy having his shark brothers in search of revenge looking for me on Bondi this summer.

So me Mam's Whitby fishing blood has obviously made its way to me, now I've tried it I'm hooked!!!!
